Manufacturing Project Engineer ll

Position Summary:

As a member of the Engineering Operations team, the Manufacturing Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the production, calibration, and testing of autonomous vehicles at OEM partner facilities. The role serves as a Technical Liaison and main point of contact to relay, coordinate, and resolve production-related actions between teams and across organizations.The role also leads launch activities for new OEM facilities and supports process development, low rate production, and process transfer activities for new and existing products.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with OEMs, Suppliers, and Contract Manufacturers to understand their requirements and provide technical support and solutions
  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes and systems to meet the production requirements for low to medium volume production
  • Coordinate production and engineering-related actions as a Technical Liaison between internal teams (e.g. Software, Hardware, Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering) and external Manufacturing Partners, maintaining alignment between teams and across organizations to ensure robust and compliant production processes and systems
  • Perform regular site visits to Manufacturing Partner facilities to conduct training, process reviews, and equipment inspections
  • Provide on-site support for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues at partner facilities.  This includes regular support around launches/development activities and curtails to support as-needed
  • Lead new production stand up activities at OEM sites, including planning and executing schedules, equipment assembly, equipment installation, conducting applicable OEM training, and providing new product launch support 
  • Support product launch activities, including pilot and production runs, and support the transition to full rate production
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance teams to ensure that the manufacturing processes and systems meet specifications and requirements
  • Identify and support implementation of software and hardware solutions for manufacturing processes and systems
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and specifications
  • Keep up to date with new technologies and industry trends and apply them to improve the performance of the manufacturing processes and systems
  • Travel up to 25% as needed

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in project engineering, manufacturing engineering, or operations engineering in robotics or other industries involving electro-mechanical manufacturing

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: 

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing principles, specifically electro-mechanical assembly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and develop effective solutions to complex problems
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with experience developing and managing project plans, schedules, and budgets for multi-quarter, cross-functional projects on the scale of $100k value
  • Experience with quality control and process improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
  • Familiarity working in a Linux environment or CLI
  • Experience using test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling softwares such as SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements for manufacturing processes

  • Experience scripting, Python preferred
  • Experience with robotic systems and automation

Salary Range:

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $91,928 to $118,965. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
